Apple has updated its Maps app with new transit directions for Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Omaha, Nebraska. This means users in these areas can now use the iOS app to access the schedule and routes of local buses.

These two places previously did not have public transit information outside of Amtrak routes. With the latest update, users can now use the Maps app to gather information from Milwaukee’s Waukesha Metro and Omaha’s Metro Transit. So instead of the regional Amtrak routes that were added to the app in 2016, users can now see local bus services operating throughout the two cities, as per Apple Insider.

Since Apple’s Maps app has been updated, iPhone users in Milwaukee and Omaha can now plan trips, view bus schedules and even come up with custom routes to reach their destinations. What’s good with the public transport directions added is they contain arrival and departure information and real time travel advisories for detours and delays.

As of late, Apple has not added Milwaukee and Omaha to its website that displays areas with transit directions. However, the Cupertino giant is expected to do it soon now that the new update has arrived, according to MacRumors.

Apple first introduced transit directions to its Apple Maps app back in 2015 with the rollout of iOS 9. Since then, the Cupertino giant has worked hard in expanding the feature to many cities and countries, so that more users, especially tourists, can benefit from it.

Apple’s Transit navigation platform has become a very useful tool for commuters since it provides pertinent information about routes, departure times and other data for trains, buses, ferries and just about any other public transportation vehicles.

Prior to launching its own Transit feature for its Maps app, Apple relied on Google’s mapping technology to provide its users with transit directions. But after acquiring HopStop and Embark in 2014, Apple decided to ditch Google and come up with its own navigation platform for its Maps app.
