Austin Butler landed the lead role in the upcoming Elvis Presley biopic to be directed by Baz Lurhmann. However, choosing who to portray the “King of Rock and Roll” was a well-thought of choice.

Butler was rivaled by “Divergent” actor, Ansel Elgort and his co-star, Miles Teller, as well the former One Direction member, Harry Styles. The “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood” actor did a film test for Lurhmann, who eventually revealed that they’ve been searching for an actor who –aside from possessing the star qualities– could display his inner vulnerabilities, according to an exclusive news reported by Deadline.

The “Moulin Rouge” and “The Great Gatsby” director was very meticulous in choosing the one who will play the lead role and said that he couldn’t make the film without the right casting. He confirmed that when he found Butler, he found someone who could exemplify the spirit of the one and only Elvis Presley.

Now that the casting for an actor to play the lead role is done, fans can’t help but wonder who will be chosen to take on the role of Priscilla Presley, Elvis’ ex-wife.

After scouring the internet and social media sites on who could potentially grab the said role, only one name came up — Lana Del Rey. The 34-year-old singer, who is also a big Elvis fan, felt that the said character was meant for her to play, and that she won’t rest until she gets casted, an insider reportedly told Radar.

The Elvis Presley Project, which is currently in its pre-production stage, will showcase “the King’s” life, how he started from scratch and rose to become one of the world’s most legendary singer. This, of course, includes his and Priscilla’s love story.

Casting is underway but there are no confirmations on who’s lining up to play as Priscilla Presley, and Lurhmann and the entire production team seem to be currently silent about any updates on the casting of Presley’s biopic.

Butler, 27, will team up with Tom Hanks, who will play the role of Colonel Tom Parker, Presley’s manager for over two decades. The screenplay was written by Luhrmann himself, together with Craig Pearce.

The untitled movie will be co-produced by him and his partner and collaborator, Catherine Martin. The Oscar-winner will serve as production and costume designer.

Elvis Presley’s biopic will start filming next year in Queensland Australia, and will be world widely distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures.
