Singer Avril Lavigne, 28, is set to marry her fiance and Nickleback frontman Chad Kroeger, 38, on July 1, according to Us Weekly, after kicking off a pre-wedding party in Cannes on Saturday, which sparked rumors that the couple is already married.

Addressing reports about the couple’s marriage, a friend of the couple told Us Weekly that Lavigne and Kroeger are “technically not married yet,” and that the wedding will take place only on Monday. The ceremony is expected to be an intimate affair with just family and close friends in attendance, the friend added.

Reports of the couple being married started doing the rounds on Saturday after Mike Heller, the CEO of Talent Resources, the company that represents Lavigne, tweeted a message expressing his delight at being invited to the singer’s wedding.

“I'm in south of France about to see my little Rok star #avril get married I am so happy to be part of this special celebration,” Heller wrote on Saturday morning.

Lavigne and Kroeger got engaged in 2012, after they got together in February of that year to co-write a song for Lavigne's fifth studio album. Kroeger, at the time, told Hello magazine that marriage was not on his mind until he met Lavigne.

“There was a time in my life that I thought I would never get married. But this definitely took me by storm. Honestly, it was more my idea than hers to get married. I'm just lucky she said yes,” he said at the time.

This will be Kroeger’s first marriage, while Lavigne was earlier married to musician Deryck Whibley in 2006. They called it quits after four years of marriage.
