  • Serkis will play the role of Alfred in the movie while Robert Pattinson will play Batman and his alter-ego Bruce Wayne

Andy Serkis has revealed what fans can expect from the upcoming “Batman” movie from filmmaker Matt Reeves. The production of the movie is currently on hold because of the coronavirus pandemic and the makers are looking to resume filming as soon as they are allowed to.

In an interview with LadBible, the 56-year-old actor spilled some minor details about the upcoming superhero movie and explained that the fans can expect a darker and broodier film than the previous ones.

When asked what kind of storyline the fans will see in “The Batman,” the “Lord Of The Rings” star told the media outlet that the story will focus on the “emotional” connection between Bruce Wayne and his butler Alfred Pennyworth.

The esteemed actor further stated that Reeves has written a really “exquisite” script for the movie.

“I would say that is not far from the truth. It is very much about the emotional connection between Alfred and Bruce. That is really at the center of it. And it is a really exquisite script that Matt has written,” Serkis told.

Serkis will be portraying the character of Alfred while Robert Pattinson will be playing Batman and his alter-ego Bruce Wayne.

The “Avengers: Age Of Ultron” star is the sixth actor to play the role of Alfred in the live-action movies based on the Dark Knight or any other character in the Batman universe. Alan Napier, Michael Gough, Michael Caine, Jeremy Irons, and Douglas Hodge are the other five actors who have played the fictional character in various movies.

But it seems Serkis would be taking the inspiration from Caine’s portrayal of Alfred in Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight Trilogy.” The actor noticed that Caine’s performance as Alfred was “legendary” and he would not be trying to mimic his performance or anybody’s performance in the upcoming feature film.

“He was fantastic. His Alfred was legendary, I could not even begin to go there, really. You find it for yourself. It's like playing these iconic roles in Shakespeare, you go back, you revisit them and you have to make it your own, and see what it is about the character that connects with you and your personal Venn diagram,” Serkis said.

Recently, Reeves also revealed that “The Batman” will not be a traditional origin story and will show the character’s origins in a different style.

In an interview with Nerdist, the “Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes” helmer noted that he never wanted to make a movie on Batman’s origin. However, he later admitted that the film will “acknowledge” his origins and how the caped crusader turned out to be one of the deadliest assassins.
