Ben Affleck confessed that he did not want to divorce Jennifer Garner.

Affleck and Garner are among the few who divorce amicably. The exes remain friends and supportive to each other after they parted ways. In fact, the “Miracles from Heavens” star was there to support Affleck during his sobriety relapse after their split.

The “Batman v Superman” actor became emotional as he opened up about his marriage with Garner during his appearance on “Good Morning America.” According to Affleck, he never saw himself getting a divorce. He didn’t want to divorce his wife and he didn’t want to be a divorced person.

“I never thought that I was gonna get divorced,” Affleck said. “I didn’t want to get divorced. I didn’t want to be a divorced person. I really didn’t want to be a split family with my children. And it upset me because it meant I wasn’t who I thought I was. And that was so painful and so disappointing in myself.”

In an interview with The New York Times, Affleck confessed that he has a compulsive behavior and he feels a certain discomfort that he wants to go away. One engaged to sex, eating, gambling or drinking to feel better but the discomfort does not totally go away, so it becomes a vicious cycle that is hard to break. He admitted that it was what happened to him.

Affleck added that his drinking problem caused more marital issues between him and Garner. He then admitted that his biggest regret in his life was his divorce.

“The biggest regret of my life is this divorce,” Affleck continued. “Shame is really toxic. There is no positive byproduct of shame. It’s just stewing in a toxic, hideous feeling of low self-worth and self-loathing.”

Affleck and Garner announced their separation after their 10th wedding anniversary in 2015. Their divorce was finalized three years later. The exes are still often seen together as they continue to co-parent their three children Violet, 14, Seraphina, 11, and Samuel, 7. Affleck and Garner still spend holidays as a family and attend church services with their kids.
