Beyonce and Jay Z
Jay Z and Beyonce might be headed for divorce if Bey's new leaked track "Ring Off" is any indication Reuters

Beyoncé and Jay Z have been fighting off divorce rumors for some time now. Unfortunately, all of the forward progress they’ve made in convincing the public that their marriage is fine has been undone by Bey’s latest leaked track.

The song is not-so-subtly titled “Ring Off” and plays out like a lyrical condolence letter to her mother, Tina Knowles, according to TV Guide. It talks about the 60-year-old’s recent divorce in an emotionally powerful way that captures the heartache and abandonment of the situation.

“Mama, I understand your many sleepless nights. When you sit and think about father and how you tried to be the perfect wife," Beyoncé sings in the song, which can be streamed via SPIN. "I wish it didn't hurt at all/I don't know how I got here/I was once the one who had his heart/Until you'd had enough and then you took your ring off."

The song feels deeply personal, which has poured fuel on the rumor fire that Beyoncé and Jay Z are headed down the path of divorce as well. These rumors started back in May after an explosive, physical altercation was captured by an elevator camera after the couple and Beyoncé’s sister, Solange Knowles, attended the Met Gala. The video, which has since gone viral, has no audio but shows Solange yelling at and kicking Jay Z.

This fight was stacked on top of a mountain of speculative evidence that the rapper had cheated on his wife of 12 years. However, the family did not confirm that rumor and the couple’s public personas have been hot and cold when it comes to dispelling or fueling divorce rumors. Previously, it was believed that the couple would announce their split after their “On the Run” tour finished in September. When that didn’t happen, news about the couple’s divorce was mostly quiet, until now.

The song in question leaked a week earlier than intended, along with another track, “7/11,” according to US Weekly. It’s hard to tell from “Ring Off” if Jay and Bey are about to go solo. The song is about her mother and any autobiographical elements are purely speculative. Still, it’s hard to deny that something is going on within that family, which includes the couple’s 2-year-old daughter Blue Ivy.

Give the song a listen and decide for yourself.
