Although Blake Shelton has been dating Gwen Stefani for over four years, he admitted he became somewhat intimidated when he realized that he went from being a pal to his girlfriend’s three kids to becoming a father figure.

Stefani, who began dating Shelton in 2015, shares sons, Kingston, 14, Zuma, 11, and Apollo, 6, with her ex-husband Gavin Rossdale. Throughout Shelton’s relationship with the 50-year-old, he has formed a close bond with her boys, and in June, Stefani thanked her boyfriend for helping her raise them.

During a recent interview with the “Today” show, Shelton opened up about the Instagram post that Stefani dedicated to him on Father’s Day. “Happy Father’s Day @blakeshelton. Thank u for helping me raise these boys!! #weloveyou,” the caption read.

Shelton told the hosts that the post was “a scary moment” for him because it forced him to reflect on his role as a parent in the boys’ lives.

“It’s one thing to be with the kids all the time and be their buddy, but you do have to consider after a while that they start to listen to things that you say,” he admitted.

“There’s a lot of responsibility that comes with that which is new to me,” the singer added.

That wasn’t the first time Stefani praised Shelton’s parenting abilities. In September 2019, she told the “Today” show that the “I’ll Name the Dogs” singer had an active role in her children’s lives.

“He is a good dad, actually. He’s been helping me out a lot. I literally get to the point where I’m like, ‘You’ve got to get home. Come help!’ It’s hard. I have three boys,” she said.

Since the family has been quarantining at Shelton’s Oklahoma ranch, the country crooner admitted that the remote getaway has allowed them to create special memories together.

“Pretty much this year, we’ve been doing things I wish I had time to do for the last 20 years. That’s literally stupid things like pick blackberries...We grew a garden,” he told the “Today” show hosts.

Shelton’s appearance on the morning show comes amid the release of his romantic duet with Stefani, “Happy Anywhere.”
