Fall Injuries in Children

Falls are said to be the "most common cause of non-fatal injuries" among young people aged 0 to 19, according to the State of Rhode Island Department of Health. Some 2.8 million children visit the emergency department for fall-related injuries each year, with kids below 5 years old comprising the "largest proportion of visits."

Some of the important ways to protect children from such injuries include installing safety guards on windows and stairs, placing soft landing surfaces under playground equipment and keeping an eye on kids when they're around fall hazards.
