Boardwalk Empire
"Boardwalk Empire" Season 5 premieres September 7 on HBO HBO

The end of an era is coming in Atlantic City -- at least on television. “Boardwalk Empire,” the HBO drama about prohibition and organized crime in Atlantic City, will begin its fifth and final season on Sept. 7. The series originally premiered on the network in 2010.

“Boardwalk Empire” follows “Nucky” Thompson, played by Steve Buschemi, the leader of Atlantic City organized crime during the prohibition era. HBO has released the synopses of the first four episodes of the season, giving fans a glimpse of what’s to come as the series reaches its end.

In the Season 5 premiere episode, “Golden Days for Boys and Girls” (Sept. 7), Nucky will reminisce about his childhood while in Cuba working on a deal that will help bring an end to prohibition in America. Meanwhile, Lucky Luciano is hatching a plan in New York.

The second episode, “The Good Listener” (Sept. 14), will find Nucky returning from Cuba and preparing for a meeting with the “Boss of Bosses,” while Al Capone and his men start initiative to recoup their losses after the Elliot Ness bust.

In the third episode, “What Jesus Said” (Sept. 21), Margaret finds herself in trouble, while Nucky prepares for an important visit from Boston. In 1884 a young Nucky meets a young girl.

In the fourth episode, “Cuanto” (Sept. 28), Nucky and Margaret must come together when they find they share a common enemy. Meanwhile, Lucky Luciano and Al Capone meet in Chicago.

“Boardwalk Empire” promises a busy start to its final season. HBO has released a teaser trailer for the show filled with murder and mayhem. The Season 5 premiere airs on HBO on Sept. 7.
