The trailer for the much-awaited Stephen King horror movie, "The Boogeyman," dropped Sunday.

In the 2-minute trailer released by 20th Century Studios, a child reluctantly sleeps in the dark after her father tells her that there is no monster hiding inside her closet. But just a few minutes after her father leaves the room, the closet door suddenly swings open. Clasping a night light close to her chest, the frightened child checks what is underneath her bed after something moves below it. A creature's hand comes into view as the child tosses her night light under the bed.

"It's been around forever," a woman says in the next scene. This is followed by a man handing the child's father a drawing and telling him, "It's the thing that comes for your kids when you're not paying attention."

The horror movie, which opens in theaters on June 2, tells the story of high school student Sadie Harper and her younger sister Sawyer who are dealing with the pain of losing their mother while not getting support from their father Will – a therapist who is dealing with his pain, too. A desperate patient suddenly shows up at their home and leaves behind a supernatural creature that feeds on the suffering of its victims, according to the synopsis published by Deadline.

"The Boogeyman" is helmed by Rob Savage and "A Quiet Place" writers Scott Beck, Mark Heyman and Bryan Woods have written the screenplay.

The film stars Vivien Lyra Blair, Sophie Thatcher, Chris Messina, Marin Ireland, Madison Hu, LisaGay Hamilton, Maddie Nichols, David Dastmalchian and Daniel Hagen as the voice of the creature. "The Boogeyman" is produced by Shawn Levy, Dan Levine, Dan Cohen, John H. Starke, Emily Morris, Scott Beck, Bryan Woods, Ryan Cunningham, Adam Kolbrenner and Robin Meisinger.

Earlier, Deadline reported that another Stephen King title, "Children of the Corn," has been picked up by RJLE Films and will be shown on March 3 in theaters before it becomes available on horror streaming service Shudder on March 31.

"Children of the Corn" follows a dying 12-year-old girl in Nebraska who is possessed by a spirit and recruits other children in a killing spree on adults opposing their plans. The town's only hope is a brilliant high school student who is opposed to the massacre.
