A dramatic surveillance video surfaced recently showing a 5-year-old boy protecting his mom from four gunmen that broke into their home.

The incident happened on the morning of Sept. 30, in South Bend, Indiana, local television station WSBT reported. In the surveillance footage, Tamika Reid was seen at her home with her kids. All of a sudden, gunshots were heard and multiple unidentified men broke into her home.

"What you seeing was me ironing our clothes, getting our clothes, ready to start our day," Reid told WSBT. "You would hear me saying, 'What is that?'"

The mother of three said she was terrified when she saw the men in hoodies with guns. She said her children were all in the room when the home invasion happened.

At one point, one of the gunmen wearing a red hoodie forced Reid to walk into another area of the house. This was when Reid's 5-year-old son, David, stepped in.

The footage showed David throwing toys at the intruders and attempting to tackle them. He then bravely took one man's arm and tried to drag him away from his mom. Fortunately, for the little boy, the suspects brushed off his attacks, instead of attacking him.

"I'm just, my whole thing was my hero right here. He was trying to hit the guys. My thing was I need to get him out of the house before they do something to my son," Reid said, lauding him as a "hero".

The young boy said he was only trying to protect his mom.

Reid said the intruders left without taking anything or harming anyone. The South Bend Police Department was investigating the incident.

"But no little boy, nobody, in general, should have to go through something like this so it's really important we get those who are responsible for this heinous crime off the streets," Christine Karsten, a spokesperson for South Bend police, told the television station.
