A 4-year-old boy was shot and killed in a Philadelphia home invasion on Thursday.
The boy was with his father and another child in their home while the mother as at work in 2100 North Lambert Street when the incident happened, NBC Philadelphia reported.

Police received a call around 1 A.M. from the home and when they arrived there, they encountered a father carrying a child who told them that a 4-year-old child was shot upstairs, acting Police Commissioner Christine Coulter said.

The child was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead.

The father reported the incident as a home invasion and robbery.

There were no signs of struggle or forced entry so the police are getting a search warrant on the house.

According to KYW, the father will also be questioned to get a clearer picture of the case.

"Hopefully as he’s questioned, (homicide investigators) will be able to get a clearer picture of what exactly happened,” Coulter said. “The child was found upstairs, in a bedroom, shot.”

No arrests were made while investigators are working to get a description of the shooter.
