Bristol Palin, the daughter of former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, has said she is not a homophobe, but that she was defending her mother during a heated exchange at a West Hollywood bar.

A rep for Bristol Palin has told TMZ that the young woman was just responding to two men who were using derogatory words to her.

[Bristol Palin] was approached in a confrontational and inappropriate manner when two men aggressively shouted expletives aimed at her in reference to her mother, the rep told TMZ. Bristol responded to the unprovoked verbal assault by calmly standing her ground and defending her family.

While enjoying herself out on the town, Bristol Palin, the eldest daughter of the former Alaska governor, happened to make headlines around the world when she was captured on tape in a face-to-face heated argument with a heckler.

The young woman was riding a mechanical bull and the man told Bristol Palin that her Sarah Plain was a whore and the [expletive] devil.

After dismounting the bull, Bristol Palin approached the man and asked him what her mother did wrong. To which the man responded, She lives, she breathes.

He also told Bristol Palin that if there was a hell her mother Sarah Palin would be there.

She is evil, the man said.

Alright, is it because you're a homosexual? Bristol Palin asked the man.

Pretty much, he replied.

And that's why you hate her, Bristol Palin said.

And why would you say I'm a homosexual? the man asked.

Because I can tell you are, Bristol Palin replied.

No, that's not why I don't like your mom, the man said. Your mom is evil.

Bristol Palin's rep told TMZ that there was nothing bigoted about the young woman's words.

The situation ended with no incident, and accusing her of homophobia is completely unfounded and totally misstates her views, the rep said.

The New York Daily News reported that Bristol Palin wrote on her Facebook page on Friday that she's amazed how evil people can be.

In the meantime, those who supported her actions have praised her for standing up for her family.

Bristol...you handled yourself like a lady...and you defended your family...very well done...a class act just like your mother! one commenter wrote, as reported by NY Daily News.
