KEY POINTS

  • BTS' L.A. concerts generated 68 million tweets
  • NCT is second on the list of Twitter K-pop data
  • Fast-rising group Stray Kids is at No. 10 in the list

Twitter rounded up a list of the most-talked about K-pop groups in 2021, which unsurprisingly placed BTS at the top due to the ever-growing popularity of the boy band.

1. BTS

BTS takes the lead in a long line of most talked-about K-pop groups in 2021, according to Twitter’s K-pop data. Their sold-out “Permission To Dance – L.A.” concerts in late November and December generated 68 million tweets globally.

2. NCT

Trailing behind BTS is NCT, which is no surprise as the group’s popularity leaped exponentially in 2021 with the release of “Sticker,” the third studio album of its sub-unit, NCT127, in September. The said album held the No. 4 spot of Billboard's World Albums Chart in November.

3. ENHYPEN

The group’s first studio album, “Dimension: Dilemma” debuted at No. 11 on Billboard’s Top 200 albums chart in October 2021. The group was also among the five K-pop artists that entered Billboard 200 for the first time in 2021.

4. EXO

Fourth on the list is EXO, which was actually at No. 3 on Twitter’s K-pop artists ranking in 2020. Pre-orders of the group’s latest album, “Don’t Fight The Feeling,” exceeded 1.22 million copies last year.

5. Blackpink

At No. 5 is the super popular female quartet, Blackpink, although the band did not release a group project last year.

6. TXT

Fourth generation boy band Tomorrow X Together or TXT holds the sixth spot on the list. TXT's “The Chaos Chapter: FREEZE” was among the top 10 bestselling CDs in the U.S. last year, which amounted to 215,000 copies.

7. TREASURE

The 12-piece boy band is still one of the most-talked about K-pop groups last year, following the release of their first full-length album in January.

Coming in on the eighth spot is SEVENTEEN, followed by second-generation boy band ATEEZ at No. 9. At No. 10 is Stray Kids, who recently performed their track “Thunderous” for South Korea’s President Moon Jae-In and a host of other VIPs in the recent Dubai Expo.

“2021 Most mentioned K-pop artists worldwide,” Twitter Korea captioned its post showing 20 K-pop groups that dominated last year.
