BTS has opened up about what its fandom, called ARMY, means to the members and revealed that hit song “Dynamite” was meant to cheer up fans.

On Wednesday, Sept. 2, BTS’ label, Big Hit Entertainment, held a global media conference for most recent record-breaking hit of the septet, “Dynamite.” During the event, members RM, Suga, Jimin, Jungkook, J-Hope, V and Jin answered questions sent by reporters from all around the globe.

One asked BTS what ARMY (Adorable Representative MC for Youth) meant to the group, pointing out that the K-pop stars’ love for their fans was evident from “Boy With Luv.” Jin shared that their song “Dynamite” wouldn’t have soared to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 if it weren’t for their avid supporters.

“To us, ARMY are the people we want to share good things with first. Honestly, they are also the people that we want to hide the sad things from too,” Jin explained.

“We initially released ‘Dynamite’ to have fun with our fans, and while doing so; we were able to reach an amazing achievement. We as BTS exist because of ARMY so we will continue to work hard and show only our best efforts,” he shared, before adding that they will work harder to make their supporters happy.

This wasn’t the first time BTS had spoken about the importance of its fans. In 2017, the members talked about how they felt seeing fans coming to their sold-out concerts.

“Through our world tour, we are able to meet fans all around the world and every time I stand on stage I think, ‘Our fans really do love us.’ Also, when tickets for locations on our tour sell out, I feel really grateful and proud,” V said.

“Lately, we have come to realize our popularity, which we are thankful for. We especially felt it at the Billboard Music Awards and were really surprised [at how many fans were at the actual ceremony],” RM shared, before expressing their gratitude to ARMY.

When asked about how they show their love and appreciation for ARMY, V said he and his bandmates try to show their gratitude frequently because their fans are “very precious to us and we are always grateful for them. Above all else, we do it because we truly love our fans.”
