A huge update to “Call of Duty: Warzone” is now expected to arrive in early August with a loot train and a map extension also rumored to be part of Season 5.

The popular battle royale mode of “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare” has become the premiere “Call of Duty” experience in 2020, spinning off into its own executable while continuously updating with new characters, weapons, and map tweaks.

Recently, “Call of Duty: Warzone” launched an experimental mode that doubled the standard count for many battle royales on the market to 200. That addition was temporary, but ScreenRant surmises that it's possible it could return in future seasons on a more permanent basis thanks to the heavily rumored expansion of the map in Season 5.

Another rumor regarding possible additions to “Call of Duty: Warzone” for Season 5 is a loot train, similar to the vehicle currently circling the badlands in "Apex Legends." Players would be able to land on the train or bust in during gameplay to secure the rarest guns and perks, however, they also risk losing their lives to campers just out of sight.

Another possibility for Season 5 is an in-game event that will set off changes similar to what the loot train would do. This would likely take the form of a nuclear explosion, keying off of the franchise's penchant for the device on popular multiplayer map Nuketown.

Recently, Infinity Ward, the developers of “Call of Duty: Warzone,” dropped a brief teaser video to popular Twitch streamer NICKMERCS which features a shot from a train’s cabin. A helicopter then flies by and the train honks at them, ending a very brief glimpse into the new season.

However, NICKMERCS estimates that the numbers in the fringes of the footage hint towards the update premiering on August 5, possibly in the morning or late evening.

With the Xbox Games Showcase scheduled for this Thursday, ScreenRant says it’s possible that Activision draws attention to the franchise with a presence there. “Call of Duty” has been tied to Sony throughout the previous generation of console but there is a possibility that Microsoft has struck a marketing deal to secure the franchise for the Xbox Series X.

While it's impossible to say for certain if Season 5 of “Call of Duty: Warzone” will make its presence during Microsoft's event, the timing of this tease does seem to indicate that a greater reveal is coming sooner rather than later.
