A Michigan mother, who survived cancer, has died of COVID-19, urging people to get vaccinated against the virus.

Jessica Estep from Cassapolis was fully vaccinated, but her two-and-a-half-year-long cancer battle had already left her severely immunocompromised, reported WNDU.

Jessica died on Jan. 27 after contracting the infection during the days before Christmas. She was scheduled to get her booster shot, and she took her protection seriously. But, Jessica also understood there was only so much she could do being immunodeficient.

"She was hoping at least her circle of friends, family, and coworkers would get vaccinated so she wouldn’t have to run the risk of being exposed to the coronavirus," Jessica's mother Vickie Estep told WNDU.

Her family said she was pronounced cancer-free last September after a prolonged battle with follicular lymphoma. "So it was just so exciting when she got through it," her sister Melissa told the news outlet.

Jessica married her now-husband Benny in November and was excited for her new life as she turned 41 on Dec.12. Eleven days later, she fell sick after contracting the virus. She was admitted to the hospital on Christmas. "So to lose her to coronavirus because her lungs collapsed was such a blow," Melissa added.

Her family is clueless about how she got exposed to the virus, but Vicky said Jessica always told them how "important it was that people get vaccinated, so others like her aren’t left behind in the wake of the pandemic."

"We had promised her when she got her cancer diagnosis that we’d support her in raising her children should the worst happen, never dreaming that we would be called upon to raise her children, but here we are just months later," Vickie added.

Now, her family has set up a GoFundMe page hoping to help Jessica's children, a 14-year-old daughter, and a 19-year-old son. Vicky said all the donations will go toward supporting her two children as they grow up and transition into adulthood.

Now her family wants to urge people to get jabbed as they believe "her passing shows how vaccination protects more than just yourself."

Recently, a fully-vaccinated teen had died of COVID-19 after battling terminal cancer for years. Jordan Waite of Kansas City died after the virus damaged his lungs.
