Chick-fil-A has boosted its food menu with a new breakfast item that it is testing in select markets this summer.

The bite-sized Chorizo Cheddar Egg Bites are the first new breakfast item that Chick-fil-A has created since 2017 when it launched the Hash Brown Scramble Bowl nationwide.

Featuring whole eggs, Mexican-style chorizo sausage, and a blend of cheddar and Monterey Jack cheeses baked in-house daily, the four-piece Chorizo Cheddar Egg Bites meal is "ideal" for customers on-the-go, the restaurant said.

The egg bites will only be available for a limited time starting on Aug. 22.

Fans of the chicken chain can try them at participating restaurants in Augusta, Georgia; Aiken, South Carolina; Columbus, Ohio; Norfolk and Portsmouth, Virginia; Miami, and New Orleans, according to Chick-fil-A.

Depending on the feedback from customers in these markets, the Chorizo Cheddar Egg Bites may be featured on menus nationwide in the future, the company said.

To find out if a local restaurant serves the egg bites, the company recommends checking the Chick-fil-A app or contacting their nearby location.

Chick-fil-A said the test of the Chorizo Cheddar Egg Bites is part of a continuing effort by the company to provide more options for customers ordering one of the most important meals of the day.

"As summer ends and the back-to-school morning routine begins, we wanted to offer our customers a new protein-packed entrée that keeps them satisfied when they're on-the-go without sacrificing taste," Leslie Neslage, director of menu and packaging at Chick-fil-A, said in a statement.

"Our guests are asking for more bite-sized, shareable breakfast options, and we look forward to hearing what they think about our limited-time Chorizo Cheddar Egg Bites test."
