It’s officially Chinese New Year 2022 and that means millions are celebrating the Lunar New Year 2022 - the Year of the Tiger. Here’s hoping that this year will be better than the past couple of years. Of course, the celebration comes with the observance of Chinese New Year traditions to sweep away bad luck and invite good fortune. Such traditions include putting up red decorations, offering food and drinks to ancestors, gift-giving, fireworks, dragon dances and enjoying a feast with loved ones.

The Lunar New Year 2022 is hopefully a year of prosperity and good fortune. To help attract luck and abundance, there are Chinese New Year lucky foods that are brought out including dumplings, fish dishes, spring rolls, longevity noodles, "good fortune fruits" such as oranges and pomelos, glutinous rice cakes and sweet rice balls. Aside from these, Chinese New Year drinks should also be part of the celebration. Chinese alcoholic drinks are usually made with fermented grain and fruits, but who’s to say you can’t pair Chinese food with a good bottle of wine?

As wine has always been associated with European, American and Australian festivities, it’s not commonly associated with Asian food. You’d be surprised to know how certain kinds of wine complement some Chinese dishes. Here are a few suggestions of what to try.
