Burrito chain Chipotle released a "water cup" candle that is scented like lemonade in a move that jokingly mocks customers who "accidentally" fill the cup intended for water with lemonade.

The new candle was released on Saturday in honor of National Lemonade Day. The candle can be purchased on Chipotle's merchandise website for a limited time at a price of $28.

"Some Chipotle fans have been known to 'accidentally' fill their complimentary water cups with lemonade at the restaurant's beverage station," Chipotle said in a press release.

Chipotle lightheartedly confirmed it was aware of the lemonade scheme, as customers have talked about it on social media. Chipotle said it saw this as an opportunity to connect to consumers.

"Social is the premier destination for us to listen to and engage with our super fans. When they see these lighthearted tributes to social chatter and fan behavior, they feel even more connected to Chipotle," Chris Brandt, Chief Marketing Officer at Chipotle, said in the release.

In 2018, Chipotle had joked on Twitter that "in this house we love and appreciate people who don't put lemonade in their water cups." Chipotle had also mentioned the idea of the candle in a tweet in 2019.
