The U.S. Coast Guard searched Friday for a cruise ship passenger who went overboard off the coast of Texas.

The Coast Guard was notified about 9 p.m. Thursday after the 26-year-old man, whose banme was withheld, aboard the Carnival Dream was captured on camera footage climbing over a balcony and jumping overboard.

“Based on camera footage, it appears the guest jumped from his stateroom balcony,” Carnival said in a statement, CNN reported.

The ship was on a four-day voyage from Texas to Cozumel, Mexico. It was 47 miles off the coast of Galveston, heading into the Gulf of Mexico when the man jumped. Carnival began search and rescue operations immediately while Coast Guard mobilized its own search efforts. Carnival ended its search effort late Thursday and continued toward Mexico as scheduled.

“The U.S. Coast Guard released Carnival from the search overnight,” the Carnival statement said. “We are saddened by this outcome and the onboard CareTeam is assisting the guest’s family.”

The Coast Guard Friday deployed air crews to assist boat crews in their search. A spokesperson for Carnival Cruise Line said nearby cargo ships have also been participating in search efforts.

As of Friday morning, the ship was 390 miles southeast of Galveston en route to Cozumel. It is expected to dock early Saturday before heading back to Texas.
