Comedian John Mulaney took to Twitter on Wednesday to announce that he’s starring in his very own musical children’s special on Netflix. “John Mulaney & the Sack Lunch Bunch” will premiere Dec. 24 and will feature 15 children, ages 8-13, performing alongside Mulaney and his guest stars in a series of songs and gags.

Mulaney is "a man with neither children nor musical ability," as noted by him before announcing the new special. Yet, this modern take on old school variety shows right out of a bygone era of television matches Mulaney's old school spirit.

Playbill describes the special as being like “The Mickey Mouse Club” or “The Electric Company.” They also note that Eli Bolin, who wrote the "Original Cast Album: Co-Op" episode soundtrack of “Documentary Now!,” a show which Mulaney co-wrote and appeared in, has penned some new original songs to be performed by Mulaney and company.

"SONGS. SKETCHES. QUESTIONS ON HUMAN EXISTENCE," Mulaney continued.

Billboard reports that musician David Byrne of “The Talking Heads” will also be involved somehow. Alongside him, actor Jake Gyllenhaal will be there as a guest star. Mulaney also mentioned that actors and performers Andre De Shields, Shereen Pimentel, and Annaleigh Ashford, and Richard Kind will be involved with the project.

Mulaney has certainly had a busy couple of years, from starring in his own Broadway show “Oh, Hello” alongside his longtime friend and fellow comedian Nick Kroll, to co-starring as Spider-Ham in the Academy Award-winning film “Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse.”
