Noted game developer CD Projekt Red has been busy working on its latest title “Cybperunk 2077” to make it the best title it can ever release. When the devs revealed that the massive role-playing game will be in first-person view the whole time, however, fans reacted negatively.

Max Pears, “Cyberpunk 2077” lead level designer spoke to Video Games Chronicle and explained that the decision to go 100% first-person view wasn’t an easy one to make, but it was made with the game’s overall experience in mind.

“I hope people understand that we have thought about this and there is logic to our process,” Pears said during an interview at the Tokyo Game Show. “We’ve not just thrown this in randomly: there is a lot of thought that’s gone into it.”

Pears emphasized that the first-person view was chosen to give players the most immersive gaming experience they can get from “Cyberpunk 2077.”

“In last year’s demo you saw the interactive dialogue system, where somebody pulled a gun on your face. I don’t think you would necessarily get that same impact in third-person,” Pears explained. “It’s moments like that which make it feel like it’s your story and your character.”

The level designer said he understands that not a lot of people will like first-person view, and that there will be some who will be very “passionate” about the issue at hand. Indeed, netizens have shown their dislike for first-person view. Some of the commenters reading the news on VGC and PlayStation Lifestyle expressed their views against it.

Still, Pears said the developers believe that first-person view is what’s best for the game, and that it’s what is needed to make the game as immersive as possible. “It’s the right choice for the game,” he said.

Pears added that those who will personally experience the game for themselves will understand why the game is in first-person view. The developers believe that first-person view will benefit the game in terms of gameplay and story-telling.

Those who worry about not being able to see their characters after spending a lot of time and effort customizing them will still be able to see them in the inventory screen, during driving sequences, when facing mirrors, and in some cut-scenes in the game.
