Daily Harvest announced on Tuesday that tara flour in French Lentil and Leek Crumbles was the ingredient that caused many cases of illness. In late June, Daily Harvest announced the voluntary recall.

The product caused 966 hospitalizations and 277 reports of illness related to “gastrointestinal illness and abnormal liver function," according to the Food and Drug Administration.

“At this time, we have identified tara flour as the cause of the issue. We have only used this ingredient in French Lentil + Leek Crumbles and we are no longer sourcing from this producer who does not provide any ingredients for our 140+ other items,” Daily Harvest said in a statement.

“This was the first and only time we’ve used tara flour, which has been available and used in the North American market as a plant-based source of protein prior to our use,” Daily Harvest said. “Our investigation team will continue working with the FDA, the tara flour producer and others to help determine what specifically made people sick,” it added.

Daily Harvest has been urging customers to throw out the product and has worked with the FDA to investigate the problem.

After reports of illness began surfacing, Daily Harvest founder and CEO Rachel Drori said that the company was "working 24 hours and seven days a week" to find the root cause of the issues.
