There’s already plenty of drama unfolding in Salem following news of Julie’s fall, but that won’t stop things from continuing to heat up as the battle over who will raise Nicole’s daughter Holly also continues to unfold on the Wednesday, Dec. 19 episode of “Days of Our Lives.”

What had seemed like a simple issue of convincing Maggie (Suzanne Rogers) that Eric (Greg Vaughan) was fit to carry out Nicole’s (Arianne Zucker) dying wish on the NBC soap has since become complicated thanks to the arrival of a letter Holly’s (Harlow and Scarlett Mallory) mother wrote to Chloe (Nadia Bjorlin) when she first married Xander (Paul Telfer). In that letter, Nicole asked her best friend to raise her daughter if anything ever happened to her. Now, with Brady (Eric Martsolf) by her side, Chloe has made a bid to raise Holly as her own, alongside her own son, Parker, and Maggie has agreed. However, Eric refuses to give up without a fight, and Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) is also on his side.

Now, with everyone at odds over the situation, it will quickly become clear that it won’t be resolved easily. Eric is convinced that his brother is siding with Chloe because of their own issues with one another, which has only made things even more complicated. Of course, things will also become problematic when the two women who are siding with each brother also have at it over the custody issue.

Sarah will try to convince Chloe that Nicole changed her mind when she realized she could still have Eric, something that wasn’t a possibility when she first married Xander because the man she truly loved didn’t know why she really left him behind in Salem. Since she asked him to take care of Holly in the moments before she died in the warehouse explosion, Sarah will do her best to make it clear that is the wish that should be honored.

However, because both women believe they were Nicole’s best friend, their individual insistence that they know what she wanted will only cause things to grow more heated between them. If they then also begin to argue, it will only mean more drama for this fight in the future.

“Days of Our Lives” airs weekdays on NBC.
