New Caney -- Authorities have discovered two decomposing bodies from a wooded area at New Caney in Texas, believed to be that of the teen couple who went missing last month.

The bodies were found in a wooded area near the intersection of Fairway Drive and Putters Green Street Sunday morning, reported KHOU. Investigators said the initial discovery of one body led them to another in the trunk of a car.

"Preliminary information leads us to believe that the bodies belong to the couple that was reported missing on May 25. The female is thought to be Megan Madison Leach, a 19-year-old female, and the other body, which has not yet been positively identified, is believed to belong to the registered owner of the vehicle," Roman Forest Police Chief Stephen Carlisle told Click 2 Houston.

The Roman Forest Police Department officers were alerted by two men who decided to check out the vehicle they thought was abandoned. The car had been in the same location for a couple of weeks.

Officers found the body of a male in the late stages of decomposition along the wood line. One of the men also found a long gun on the ground behind the vehicle. The investigators then checked the blue BMW and found the female's body inside the trunk.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) has been asked to help with the investigation. According to the investigators, Leach and the man had been in a relationship when they went missing on May 25. Officers also suspect that Leach could have been a human trafficking victim.

"The motive and circumstances surrounding these deaths are under investigation, and our hearts and prayers are with the families and friends of the deceased," the MCSO was quoted by KHOU.

The officers said they would have to wait till the autopsy is performed before positively identifying the other body. The couple, when reported missing, was last seen in the vehicle found in the woods.

The bodies have been moved to the Montgomery County Forensic Center for an autopsy. Authorities said they don't believe the public is in danger.
