A visually-impaired Louisiana woman called police to report that she hadn't seen her husband for 27 hours, but, to her horror, he was found inside the same house, dead with several gunshot wounds.

The incident took place on Dec. 29 at the couple's Grand Ecore home. The woman called deputies with the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff's officers at around 6 p.m. ET to report her husband missing, KSAT-TV reported. When deputies arrived at the house, they found the man's vehicle still parked in the driveway.

During a police interrogation, the woman told deputies that she hadn't heard from her husband, 76-year-old William Robert 'Bob' Lang Jr., since 3 p.m. the day before, which she said was unusual. While circling the house, the responding deputies discovered a broken window glass on the residence and requested permission to enter the house. Upon entering the house, the detectives found him lying dead in bed, having suffered multiple gunshot wounds, the outlet reported.

Detectives are ransacking other homes and businesses in the area in search of any surveillance video. The deceased man's family and friends are also being interviewed, according to News.in.

"Our investigators are working tirelessly in an effort to apprehend the individual or individuals involved in Mr Lang’s murder," Brinkwire quoted Sheriff Stuart Wright, as saying. "We express our condolences to the Lang family."

A Facebook post by the Sheriff's office showed Lang's car parked in front of their house. The identity of the woman wasn't revealed but reports indicate that Lang made an unsuccessful run for the US senate in 2010.

In June 2020, an elderly Ohio man was stabbed to death inside his car by his wife who failed to kill herself. Bobby L. Mims, 82, was killed by his wife, who tried to drink bleach to kill herself but deputies arrived on time and nabbed her. Cops were apparently alerted by the couple's son. The woman was rushed to a hospital where she was declared to be in a stable condition.
