Delta State University Shooting Leaves 1 Dead From Campus Gunfire: Reports
Update as of 3:55 p.m. EDT: A man identified as Shannon Lamb, 45, was named a "person of interest" in the shooting death of professor Ethan Schmidt at Delta State University on Monday, according to local media Sun Herald.

Lamb was also involved in the shooting death of a woman earlier on Monday in the city of Gautier, according to the Sun Herald. Police said that Lamb left the home he shared with a woman in Gautier and drove to Delta State University in a green SUV. A detective said university police had found an SUV matching the description.
Lamb also worked at the university as a social science coordinator and geographer. Delta State University moved all students who were in academic buildings to the 4,000-seat Sillers Coliseum sports arena while students who were in residential halls were told to remain there. The university canceled all remaining classes on Monday as well as events to celebrate its 90th anniversary set for Tuesday.

Update as of 2:18 p.m. EDT: The Bolivar county deputy corner reported that Schmidt was shot in the head, according to WJTV12. It remains unclear how many times he was shot. All local schools were still on lock down.
Update as of 1:55 p.m. EDT: Officers from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) were on route to Delta State University, according to the department's official Twitter account. While a local news reporter tweeted footage of police searching the campus.

Update as of 1:10 p.m. EDT: Police have said that history professor Ethan Schmidt was fatally shot, according to the Delta-Democrat Times. Schmidt was a professor in the university's social science department. He was an assistant professor of U.S. History, according to the university's website.
Update as of 12:55 p.m. EDT: Local news affiliate WJTV12 reported that the person killed was a professor at the university, according to information obtained from a coroner.
Original Story: At least one person has been confirmed dead after an active shooter was reported on the campus of Delta State University Monday. The University's Twitter account reported that the campus was placed on lockdown shortly afterward.

The university, which is located in Cleveland, Mississippi, declined to give further comment when Reuters attempted to reach a communications officer.
Emergency management has set up command center. MS Governor's office and IHL have offered their assistance. Campus remains locked down.

The Cleveland Police Department confirmed that the shooting suspect was still on the loose, and one person had been taking to hospital in an ambulance, local newspaper the Clarion-Ledger reported.

Delta State University is a public school located in Cleveland, Mississippi, and has an enrollment of over 4,000 students.
The shooting comes nearly three weeks after a shooting on the campus of Mississippi State University, Aug. 27. In that instance, which also resulted in a campus wide lockdown, there were no fatalities.
