Long before Sony officially announced the name PlayStation 5, it has been calling the upcoming console as the next-generation console. It appears that it is intentionally dubbing the PS5 as such because it wants to highlight the next generation technology and features that it packs. One of the major features of the upcoming gaming console from Sony is its AMD Zen 2 CPU.

Recently, Rockfish Games CEO Michael Shade talked to Gaming Bolt to give us an idea of what the PlayStation 5 is capable of. Rockfish Games is the team behind the game “Everspace 2,” an open-world space shooter title that will have an early release next year on Steam. During the interview, the gaming studio’s CEO revealed the impact of the new processing unit of the PlayStation 5 on games.

Sony’s Mark Cerny earlier shared that the PlayStation 5 will house the custom version of AMD Zen 2 CPU. However, he did not give any details about what this custom version of a processor from AMD is capable of doing. And what better way to understand more about processing unit and computing power than hearing it from the game developers?

Theoretically, game developers in the industry have a clear idea of the impact of PS5’s CPU will have on the games they are developing. Shade shared his experience with the PlayStation 4’s CPU and how it’s CPU made a significant impact on the first “Everspace” game. The CEO explained that a 3D space shooter title is CPU-intensive, considering the various elements such as destructible environments and complex collisions happening on screen simultaneously.

The CEO said that a faster CPU would instantly enable far better performance in various areas of the game and so much more. He added that a faster CPU will allow far more projectiles and NPCs on screen all at the same time. It will also enable more precise collision detection and much fancier combats.

Jim Ryan, Sony Interactive Entertainment President, recently announced that gamers could expect its next-generation gaming console, the PlayStation 5, to arrive sometime in the holiday of 2020. Between now and the release window, expect to hear more stories about Sony’s PlayStation 5.
