A 25-year-old woman who was ditched at the altar by her groom has staged a protest in front of the man's house in her wedding attire to win him back.

The bizarre incident happened in the Indian state of Odisha. The bride, identified as Dimple Dash, was set to marry her longtime boyfriend Sumeet Sahu in a grand ceremony Monday, reported Tribune India.

Though the couple had secretly registered their wedding legally in September after a long courtship, they decided to hold a traditional ceremony Monday as per Hindu customs. Dimple and her family invited their relatives and friends to the occasion, but the groom did not show up.

Because of this, Dimple and her family headed to Sumeet's house. However, his parents refused to let them in, keeping the door firmly closed.

According to Dimple, their marriage was registered without the knowledge or consent of Sumeet's parents. She alleged that Sumeet's parents were torturing her. Though the groom initially supported her, Sumeet allegedly began to side with his family later on. The bride then approached the police to file a harassment complaint, following which the families reached a consensus to hold the wedding ceremony.

Yet, Sumeet vanished on the wedding day.

"He [Sumeet] sexually exploited my daughter for several days, and now he has not shown up for the wedding," Dimple's mother told India Today.

After the news about Dimple's protest spread, Sumeet's parents finally relented and agreed to accept her as their daughter-in-law.

"I admit that Sumit had married Dimple. But, she lodged a harassment case against my family which is completely baseless. We all are out on bail now, and the matter is still sub-judice," Sumeet's father, Pramod Sahu, told Odisha TV.

Things didn't end there, however. Sumeet later claimed that he had already filed for divorce from Dimple.

"Dimple has lodged a false harassment case against me and my family and the matter is sub-judice. Following her complaint, I filed a divorce petition in September 2021 as I ran out of options," he said as per the outlet.

Sumeet also alleged that Dimple had been trying to get into more trouble by staging a protest in front of his house.
