A 60-year-old woman was in critical condition after she was mauled by two dogs in Saint-Césaire in Quebec’s Montérégie region in Canada. The incident took place Wednesday afternoon.

Local media reported, the woman was attacked by the dogs, who were on the loose without a leash. The owner of the dogs was not present at the scene when the incident took place. Police arrived at the scene after receiving a call from a passerby about the attack.

Later on Wednesday, police questioned the owner and seized the dogs. The dogs are “under surveillance and in isolation,” a police representative Marie-Pier Lorrain told Global News.

The woman was rushed to the hospital for treatment to her serious injuries. Doctors said that as of late Thursday, her condition remained critical. It is believed that the woman was not a resident of the area where the attack occurred. Police said she was in the area for a garage sale on a residential lot.

Authorities said they launched an investigation into the incident. The breeds of the dogs were not identified.

In another recent incident, a woman was attacked by four pit bulls while she was walking her roommate’s dog in Calgary, Canada. Marissa Gautreau was walking the golden retriever named Copper when she and the dog were attacked by the pit bulls.

Recalling the incident, Gautreau said, “The next thing you know I’m kind of starfishing our dog on the ground while the four pit bulls are biting us from every angle.”

“A car pulls up. Two people get out and they start beating on the dogs with two lacrosse sticks and dogs just don’t give up, and then another guy stops and he’s kicking the dogs, and then finally the dogs just gave up and I was sitting here on my front lawn just bleeding everywhere,” she added.
