KEY POINTS

  • Primal Beast is a Strength hero with good damage and decent CC options
  • His abilities are great for interrupting groups of enemies
  • Primal Beast can engage from a distance thanks to a charge ability and ranged attacks

There’s a brand new beast in “Dota 2’s” roster of heroes, and this one promises to shake things up with a set of high-impact abilities that can send enemies running for cover.

The aptly-named Primal Beast is the latest addition to “Dota 2’s” list of Strength heroes with a penchant for crowd control. As a tanky initiator, Beast tramples his way into a fight and pounds targets to the ground with his sharp claws and boulder-breaking bite.

Primal Beast’s first ability is Onslaught, which causes him to charge in a straight line after a lengthy channeling time. Enemies hit by the charge are stunned, dealt damage and knocked a short distance backward. Onslaught’s range is affected by how long Primal Beast channels the ability.

His second ability, Trample, lets Primal Beast deal damage to all enemies as he walks near them. Every time Primal Beast takes a step, shockwaves emit from his feet, causing damage to all nearby targets while destroying trees in the process. The damage scales off his maximum attack damage and while Trampling, Primal Beast cannot use his basic attacks.

Uproar grants Primal Beast extra base damage passively. Also, every instance of at least 35.0 damage taken from enemy heroes causes him to gain stacks of Uproar, which grants extra armor and even more bonus attack damage when activated. Up to five stacks of Uproar can be held at once.

The next skill, Pulverize, causes Primal Beast to grab an enemy and violently smack them onto the ground repeatedly, damaging them and all nearby enemies over a large area. Every tremor caused by Pulverize causes mini-stuns to all other enemies.

Lastly, Rock Throw is an ability that does exactly what one would expect – throw rocks. Primal Beast hurls a boulder at a target area, damaging and stunning all targets hit. This ability can be upgraded with Aghanim’s Shard to gain additional rocks. Primal Beast cannot use Rock Throw within a minimum distance.

So far, Primal Beast seems like a decent initiator with good damage, artillery attacks and small chunks of CC that are more suited for interrupting enemies instead of locking them down entirely. Read more about the nitty-gritty details about Beast’s kit on his official hero page.
