“Downward Dog” will end its Season 1-run with a double-episode finale next week.

In the first half of the finale, Nan (Allison Tolman) encounters a last-minute problem with her nationwide marketing campaign for Clark + Bow Outfitters. According to the synopsis for Season 1, episode 7, Nan’s campaign is hours away from launching in Times Square on the Jumbotron, when an she discovers that an algorithm has been flipped, threatening to ruin her entire campaign.

Meanwhile, in attempt to reduce Nan’s stress, Martin (voiced by Samm Hodges) tries to take out his sworn enemy, Pepper (Maria Bamford), but sees unexpected results.

Pepper made her debut in Season 1, episode 1, in which he appeared in Martin’s dream, telling the dog that Nan has never really loved him and that’s the reason she’s never coming home. Pepper appeared in the flesh for the first time in Season 1, episode 2, in which she managed to enter Nan’s house and scared the hell out of Martin. Pepper made a huge comeback at the end of this week’s Season 1, episode 6, in which he appeared in Martin’s dream once again, singing the words: “You’re gonna die and everything will be the same. You’re gonna die and no one will know your name. Sure, Nan will cry. But she’s gonna get a new dog.”

In the second half of the finale, Nan goes on a vacation with Martin to take a break from the pressures of a major decision at work and the mess she’s made of her life. According to the synopsis for Season 1, episode 8, Nan stops by her estranged father’s place in the country, hoping to say hi and go. But when she discovers he’s selling the family home, Nan stays longer that she expected.

While Nan tries to pack up some childhood treasures, Nan’s dad takes Martin for a walk, but Martin runs off into the woods, hoping to prove he’s wild and free like a wolf. He, however, later discovers that he’s not a wolf but a dog that is lost.

In Season 1, episode 6, Nan shared with her best friend Jenn (Kirby Howell-Baptiste) that she hasn’t seen her father in three years. At the end of the episode, shortly after watching a video of her when she was 7, Nan decided to call her dad.

“Downward Dog” Season 1, episodes 7 and 8 air back-to-back on Tuesday, June 27 at 10 p.m. EDT on ABC.
