A Missouri police officer has been hailed a hero after the Kansas City Police department shared dramatic bodycam footage of him saving a 1-month-old girl who had stopped breathing last week.

The hero officer identified as Richard DuChaine, along with his partner, officer Charles Owen, responded to a house in Kansas City on Nov. 3 on a report of a baby not breathing, news outlet Law & Crime reported.

Before the emergency officers arrived, the two deputies ran into the residence and found the infant identified as Kamiyah unresponsive in her father's arms. The father handed the child over to DuChaine who then immediately started performing life-saving measures on her.

The body cam video released by the officials shows DuChaine performing chest compressions and back thrusts on the infant while Owen checked for obstructions. At the end of the intense video, DuChaine can be seen turning the infant over and saying in relief: "C'mon..She's breathing now."

After the dramatic rescue, the infant was rushed to a hospital where she was reportedly in stable condition. Kamiyah was battling an RSV [respiratory syncytial virus] infection, according to reports.

Although RSV usually causes mild cold symptoms, it can be serious, especially for infants and older adults, according to CDC. It is the most common cause of bronchiolitis (inflammation of the small airways in the lung) and pneumonia (infection of the lungs) in infants.

Kamiyah's mom Tajanea Allen said she is relieved that her infant is safe. "She's still on a breathing machine and stuff. I'd rather for her to be on it than to be anywhere else, that's for sure," Allen was quoted as saying by KCTV 5.

Allen also expressed her gratitude to DuChaine for saving her daughter's life. "Richard DuChaine is a hero. He saved my daughter's life. I would do anything for that man. He saved my daughter and I'm very grateful for that," she said.

Meanwhile, DuChaine said the most rewarding part for him was to know the baby is fine. "Seeing that she's okay, that she's breathing, that was the most rewarding part. Just being able to see the baby again," he said.

"Officer DuChaine and Officer Owen, thank you for your continued service to Kansas City," Kansas City Police wrote, thanking both the officers in a tweet.
