Dua Lipa is no stranger to topping the charts and fans are well aware of her ability to release hit records. Thanks to hit songs like “Levitating” and “Don’t Start Now,” the singer will have plenty of things to celebrate on Sunday when she rings in her 26th birthday.

However, there are still some details that fans don’t know about Lipa. Check out these five fun facts about the “Love Again” singer below

1. Lipa Started Out Singing On YouTube

Lipa signed her first record deal at the age of 18, but the “New Rules” artist previously revealed she started out singing on YouTube to build up her resume. “When I was 15, I was posting covers online, but it was never one of those things that went viral, it was more of a way for me to use it as a portfolio,” she said.

2. She Used To Be A Model

Lipa had a brief career as a model but withdrew from the field after realizing it took a toll on her mental health. “I got approached to do modeling when I was really young. I went there, but I was never the right size, I was never cut out to be a model, and I never really got any real jobs,” Lipa explained during an interview with Harper’s Bazaar.

“They were holding on to me for a while, and then they were like, ‘Oh you know, if you lose a lot of weight, we’ll be able to put you out for more jobs.’ And it kind of put me in a really bad mindset.”

Lipa revealed she only pursued modeling because she thought it would allow her to make friends that could help her in the music industry.

3. Lipa Considers Her Music “Dark Pop”

Although Lipa has been praised for her catchy pop singles, the singer believes her songs belong in the gloomier category of the music genre.

“Most of my inspiration comes from sadness because it’s the emotion that sticks in the back of my mind, and the easiest way to get things out is through music,” she told Hunger magazine in an interview.

“Sometimes I’ll go into the studio in a great mood and want to write a happy song, but there will always end up being some kind of twist!”

4. Lipa’s Father Inspired Her To Pursue Music

Although Lipa is a fan of a variety of artists, including Chance the Rapper and J. Cole, the singer credits her father Dukagjin Lipa as the reason she pursued a career in music.

“My father [Kosovo musician Dukagjin Lipa] was a musician, so I’ve always been really inspired by him and living in a really musical household,” she told Glamour in an interview.

“Those are the things that really inspired me, and I feel like it was inevitable to fall into this as a career. My parents listened to a lot of Bowie, Bob Dylan, The Stereophonics, and Sting - The Police, Radiohead.”

5. She Had 33 Teeth

While humans typically have 32 teeth, Lipa previously shared an X-ray to social media revealing she had 33 teeth. However, shortly after the post, Lipa, who was opening up for Bruno Mars on his “24K Magic World Tour,” canceled several shows to get the tooth removed.
