Two armed robbers quickly realized they picked on the wrong guy when they decided to target a dental clinic in Brazil. Unbeknownst to the robbers, the patient they were trying to hold at knifepoint was actually an off-duty cop, who managed to tackle them and save the day.

The incident occurred in Ceilandia, an administrative region in the Federal District in Brazil, according to New York Post. Security camera footage captured the dentist taking a look at a patient’s teeth at around 10:30 a.m. on Nov. 11, just moments before the robbers charged in.

The dentist was caught off-guard as the crooks made their way inside and forced the people in the clinic into one room. The patients and staff members, who didn’t expect the dental clinic to turn into a crime scene, followed orders and huddled together inside the room.

At first, the off-duty cop sitting in the patient’s chair was seen getting up and following orders during those tense moments. The officer laid face-down on the ground for a while and gave the robbers no hint of potentially foiling their plans within a few minutes.

The officer continued to lay on the ground until one of the armed robbers walked towards him with a knife in his hand. As the robber tries to search the officer's pockets, the cop quickly got the upper hand by wrestling the knife out of the robber’s hand and pulling his own gun out.

The officer managed to subdue the robber, who remained lying on the ground while the 46-year-old police officer went on to tackle the other robber. The cop successfully tackled the second crook as well and took charge of the situation, ensuring no harm was caused to any of the innocent people at the clinic that day.

One of the robbers was shot by the cop but is expected to recover from the non-life-threatening injury, as reported by local CBS affiliate WKRC-TV.

The police officer, a member of Brazil’s Federal District Military Police, stayed at the scene and held the robbers down until law enforcement authorities were informed of the incident.

The two armed thieves were found to be 19 years old and were arrested, but their identities were not disclosed.
