Giuliana Rancic, veteran E! host, has been diagnosed with breast cancer.

The 37-year-old and her husband, Bill Rancic, announced their news on Monday morning.

Through my attempt to get pregnant for the third time through IVF [In Vitro Fertilization], we sadly found out that I have early stages of breast cancer. And it's been a shock. Because I recently found this out and a lot of people have been asking . . . are you pregnant? But sadly we've had to put that off, because of the news, she told Ann Curry on the Today Show.

Since 2009, Rancic and her husband have been trying to get pregnant through IVF, a process highly documented in their Style Network reality TV show, Giuliana and Bill.

On the Today Show, Rancic revealed that the breast cancer diagnosis was only possible because of her doctor's strong recommendation that she have a mammogram, despite her young age.

He said I don't care if you're 26, 36, but I will not get you pregnant if possibly the small risk that you have [breast] cancer. Because if you get pregnant, it could accelerate the cancer . . . and so I did go kicking and screaming to get a mammogram, said Rancic.

The petite TV host told Curry that despite the cancer news, she wanted to appear on the morning show to send a message to women across the country.

I think a lot of us think we're invincible. And women these days, we're busier than ever . . . but we have to start putting ourselves on the to-do list. I just want women out there to know that if you could just find it early, you could be OK. I will be OK because I found it early, said Rancic.

A native of Naples, Italy, Rancic first arrived on the entertainment news scene in 2006, when was hired to co-host E! News, a job she still holds. In addition to her E! duties, Rancic has also hosted carpet specials like Fashion Police and in June, she co-hosted Miss USA 2011 with Andy Cohen, Kelly Osbourne and Susie Castillo.

On Friday, Rancic shared a personal quote on Twitter, a post much different from her usual entertainment news Tweets and conversations with celebrities.

Sometimes the end is just the beginning, she wrote, possibly referring to her diagnosis.

Several of Rancic's friends in the entertainment industry have sent well wishes to the television host, via Twitter.

What you're going through is all that matters @Giuliana Rancic @billrancic It puts everything in perspective. Love&prayers are with you, wrote Bethenny Frankel.

Sending prayers out to my friend @GiulianRancic today! Luv U girl! God is watching over U! wrote Access Hollywood reporter Shaun Robinson.

Thinking of you @GiulianaRancic you are a force of nature! Stay strong! wrote New Kids on the Block member Donnie Wahlberg.

Rancic and Bill, 40, have been married since 2007. The couple met shortly after Bill was crowned the season one winner of The Apprentice.

Bill is currently the host of a lifestyle news series called America Now, which has been airing since late 2010.

Rancic is due to have surgery later this week, which will be followed by six and a half weeks of radiation. While plans for pregnancy have been put on hold, the Rancics said they will revisit baby plans in the not too distant future.

I'm not gonna give up. I want that baby. And what's amazing is that that baby will have saved my life . . . had I gotten pregnant, a few years down the line I could be a lot sicker. So right now, I'm OK, Rancic said.
