KEY POINTS

  • Arcane weapons now properly scale with their respective stats
  • Many spells in the game were buffed
  • Moonveil remains dominant in both PvE and PvP

The big 1.03 patch for “Elden Ring” brought about some big changes for some of the more powerful weapons in the game for both PvE and PvP.

Fan-favorites like the Sword of Night and Flame and the Hoarfrost Stomp Ash of War were hit with substantial nerfs that made them much less overwhelming. However, other weapons received some hefty buffs to make build diversity more interesting.

Here are some of the best weapons to use in “Elden Ring” version 1.03.

Rivers of Blood

As far as DEX/ARC builds go, the Rivers of Blood katana is one of the best options players can use against almost every enemy in the game. The weapon now scales with STR and DEX, and it can still deal ridiculous bleed damage per hit with its Corpse Piler Ash of War.

Rivers of Blood’s effectiveness falls off a bit against bleed-resistant targets, but even then, it’s still reliable. The biggest downside of this is that it can only be obtained from a late-game area.

Mohgwyn’s Sacred Spear

Like the Rivers of Blood, Mohgwyn’s Sacred Spear can trigger Blood Loss very quickly, but this weapon relies on an Incantation-style Ash of War: Bloodboon Ritual.

The skill can deal high damage in an area around the caster, and it temporarily coats the spear with Bloodflame, letting it inflict even more damage and cause more bleeding per hit.

Carian Regal Scepter

Rennala’s signature staff is one of the most flexible weapons for sorcerers in the game. When fully upgraded, this staff can reach 373 Sorcery Scaling. This might pale in comparison with the likes of the Prince of Death’s Staff or Lusat’s Glintstone Staff, but it does not come with any drawbacks that can hamper a build.

Patch 1.03 also buffed many sorcery spells, which means that all staves, in general, will be much more effective than they were before.

Moonveil

Moonveil remains as powerful as ever. The patch completely skipped over this katana’s power despite the community’s calls for nerfs.

With its reliable basic attacks, strong Ash of War and synergy with INT builds, Moonveil stands as one of the top weapons in “Elden Ring.”
