“Juno” star Elliot Page and Emma Portner have decided to split after three years of marriage.

The 33-year-old actor filed for divorce in New York on Tuesday, according to the court documents obtained by Entertainment Tonight. The pair also issued a statement to The Hollywood Reporter to confirm that they have decided to end their marriage.

“After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce following our separation last summer. We have the utmost respect for each other and remain close friends,” THR quoted their statement, as saying.

The announcement comes a couple of months after Page revealed on social media that he identifies himself as a non-binary, transgender person.

“Hi friends, I want to share with you that I am trans, my pronouns are he/they, and my name is Elliot. I feel lucky to be writing this. To be here. To have arrived at this place in my life,” Page wrote on Instagram in December.

At the time, Portner chimed in and gave a glimpse of how much she loved Page. The dancer-turned-choreographer said she was really proud of Page, and she asked for privacy from the media.

“I am so proud of @elliotpage. Trans, queer, and non-binary people are a gift to this world. Elliot’s existence is a gift in and of itself. Shine on sweet E. Love you so much,” Portner wrote on the image-sharing platform.

As far as the relationship is concerned, Page first noticed Portner when she posted a dance video on her Instagram profile to a song by Sylvan Esso in 2017. The video was then shared by the band on the same platform.

Talking about her relationship to The New York Times, the “Umbrella Academy” star revealed that she decided to message Portner after seeing the particular dance video and thought she was “so talented.”

“I thought, damn, this girl is so talented and so cool. I knew right away we were both creative spirits,” Page told NYT.

In the same interview, Portner shared that she saw one of Page’s movies when she was 12 years old and somehow knew that they’d cross paths someday.

“I watched one of Ellen’s films when I was about 12 and I remember my friend saying: ‘You are just like this girl.’ I knew we’d cross paths someday — I just wasn’t quite sure when or how,” NYT quoted Portner, as saying.

Later that year, they made their first public appearance together at the LA premiere of Page’s movie “Flatliners.” The actor uploaded a photo on Instagram and shared that they were on their way to the premiere.

In January 2018, the couple stunned everyone by announcing that they had tied the knot in a private ceremony following a whirlwind romance. The Oscar-nominated actor shared a series of pictures on social media and confirmed the happy news.

“Can't believe I get to call this extraordinary woman my wife. @emmaportner,” Page captioned the images.
