Elon Musk has offered a clue as to why his 18-year-old daughter publicly cut ties with him six months ago. In a recent interview with Financial Times, the Tesla and SpaceX CEO implied that his riches had to be the reason Vivian Musk had disowned him.

"It's full-on communism and a general sentiment that if you're rich, you're evil," he said. While he did not identify the specific university or college Vivian is attending, he suggested that the socialist mentality being fed to them in the institution might have taken root in his daughter's mind.

Born Xavier Alexander Musk, Vivian filed legal documents earlier this year to pursue a new birth certificate and request changes in his name and gender. In court documents obtained by ET in April, Vivian cited the reason for her name change as "gender identity and the fact that I no longer live with or wish to be related to my biological father in any way, shape or form."

Elon said while his relationship with his estranged daughter "may change" in the future, he does not seem to be overly concerned about whether or not he would ever reconcile with Vivian as he still maintains a close relationship with his nine other children.

"I have very good relationships with all the others," he said. "Can't win them all."

Aside from Vivian, Elon also shares Griffin Musk, 16, and triplets Kai Musk, Saxon Musk, and Damian Musk with ex-wife Justine Wilson, to whom he was married between 2000 and 2008. Their eldest son, Nevada Alexander Musk, died of sudden infant death syndrome in 2002, 10 weeks after he was born. The billionaire also shares X AE A-XII, 2, and Exa Dark Sidareal Musk, 22 months, with another ex, singer Grimes. They broke up shortly after the birth of their second child.

On July 6, Elon welcomed twins with current flame Shiyon Zillis but their names remain unknown. Zillis is the director of operations and special projects of his company Neuralink.

Meanwhile, there were previous speculations that Vivian disowned her father because of his stance against LGBTQ+. Elon drew the ire of Twitter users in 2020 after he shared a drawing with the text, "when you put he/him in your bio," showing a soldier daubing blood on his face while facing a pile of dead bodies. "I love to oppress," the text on the soldier's hat read.
