Emma Watson has joined other celebrities who are voicing their opinions on racism after the death of George Floyd. The actress took to Instagram to share that she is going to “work harder” on tackling the issue of racism.

The 30-year-old star also admitted that she has “benefited” from attitudes toward white people but has vowed to do more for the vulnerable people of the society who continue to face the problem of racism in today’s time.

“There is so much racism, both in our past and present, that is not acknowledged nor accounted for. White supremacy is one of the systems of hierarchy and dominance, of exploitation and oppression, that is tightly stitched into society,” Watson wrote.

The “Little Women” star also emphasized the significance of working hard to tackle the issue of “structural and institutional racism.” Meanwhile, she also said that she is “still” learning about the ways she “unconsciously” supports and upholds a structurally racist system because she wants to correct them.

“As a white person, I have benefited from this. While we might feel that, as individuals, we're working hard internally to be anti-racist, we need to work harder externally to actively tackle the structural and institutional racism around us. I'm still learning about the many ways I unconsciously support and uphold a system that is structurally racist,” Watson wrote.

The social media update comes a day after the actress was widely criticized for taking part in the Blackout Tuesday protest and not sharing any helpful links. The netizens called her out for not sharing any useful resources and urged her to donate money amid the worldwide protests.

Floyd’s death has encouraged the people to come out on the streets and protest against police brutality. Apart from the U.S., countries like the U.K., Germany, France, Denmark, Italy, Syria, Brazil, Mexico, Ireland, Canada, and New Zealand witnessed thousands of people taking part in the Black Lives Matter protest.

According to the recent developments in Floyd’s case, all four Minneapolis police officers involved in the killing of the 46-year-old African-American will face criminal charges.
