  • "Evermore" tops the Billboard 200 albums chart, becoming Swift's eighth album to achieve the feat
  • The album sold 329,000 equivalent units in the U.S.
  • This is the first time since 1963 that a female artist has two albums in the top 3 of the Billboard 200

Taylor Swift has a knack for setting records with her every album, and "Evermore" is no different. Swift's latest project has topped the Billboard 200 albums chart, becoming the eighth album from the artist to achieve the feat.

"Evermore" sold 329,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. in the week ending Dec. 17, Billboard reported, citing Nielsen Music/MRC data.

This is Swift's second album of the year to top the charts, which makes her the first female musician to have two no. 1 albums on Billboard 200 in the same year. Her previous album, "Folklore," also claimed the top spot for eight weeks.

Swift is also inching closer to the record set by Barbra Streisand on Billboard charts. Streisand is the only female artist to have 11 no. 1 titles on Billboard 200.

During the same week, "Folklore" also reached no. 3 on the chart, making the "Cardigan" hitmaker the first woman since 1963 to have two albums in the top three.

"Evermore" is Swift's ninth studio album and her second album of 2020. Previously, Swift revealed that she chose not to limit herself when creating the album.

"Every rule book was thrown out. I always had these rules in my head and one of them was, ‘You haven’t done this before, so you can’t ever do this.’ ‘Well, you've never had an explicit sticker, so you can't ever have an explicit sticker.’ I wasn't adhering to any of the guidelines that I had placed on myself," Swift told Entertainment Weekly.

The album has been labeled a hit by critics as well as listeners. It currently holds a score of 85 on Metacritic and has a 9.5 user rating on the website.

Apart from that, the acclaimed musician has been nominated for six Grammys. The singer could take home the trophies for album of the year ("Folklore"), song of the year ("Cardigan"), best pop solo performance and best pop vocal album.

If Swift manages to sweep in all the categories, this would put her at the fourth position in the list of female artists with most number of Grammys.

Alison Krauss leads with 27 trophies, while Beyonce comes second with 24. Aretha Frankling has 18, while Adele and Alicia Keys are tied with 15 each.
