The first trailer for “The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run” released Thursday, and fans were excited to see the internet’s favorite nice guy, Keanu Reeves, make an appearance. Based on the footage, the actor has indeed joined the cast of the SpongeBob film where he will play a tumbleweed.

Reeves, 55, is no stranger to self-aware cameo appearances like he did recently in this year's Netflix movie “Always Be My Maybe.” So it should come as no surprise that Reeves pops up in the SpongeBob movie just to drop a few funny lines. He also has a surprising upcoming appearance in a video game, “Cyberpunk 2077,” that shared both his voice and his likeness. As Business Insider pointed out, 2019 is the “year of Keanu Reeves.”

In the trailer posted by Entertainment Tonight, Reeves introduces himself to SpongeBob and Patrick, saying "Hello, call me Sage. I'm made out of sage and I am a sage, so it works out pretty well." Patrick then introduces himself, explaining that “Patrick” means “toaster” in Celtic.

“Pretty sure it doesn’t,” Reeves (as Sage) replies.

The third SpongeBob movie to date follows everyone's favorite sponge and his best friend Patrick as they go on a quest to “the lost city of Atlantic City” in an effort to find SpongeBob’s meowing snail pet-friend, Gary. This film appears to feature the same surreal, live-action combined with animated antics as previous entries, but this time it also offers a unique three-dimensional computer-animated cast.

Reeves isn’t the only big-name actor to join the film as Reggie Watts and Awkwafina have also signed on to star.

“The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run” releases in theaters on July 2, 2020.
