A man in India was arrested for allegedly murdering his 3-year-old son and burying the body near his home.

The suspect, identified as Shyamal Das from Agartala, a city in the eastern Indian state of Tripura, was taken into custody for allegedly murdering his child and burying him, police said Wednesday, as reported by India Today.

Officers responded to the scene Tuesday after they received a report of a child buried in a pit and found the remains of the unidentified victim. The body was sent for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death, reports said.

"We got information that one Shyamal Das had murdered his 3-year-old child and buried the body in a pit in Baldakhal's Paulpara area. Accordingly, we came and started investigating and after three hours of searching, we could find the body," Paramita Pandey, a senior investigating officer told local news outlet Northeast Live Tv reported.

Investigators said Das allegedly beat the boy, and when he realized the child was no longer breathing, he buried the body near a pond. "There are head injury marks and only a post-mortem can ascertain the severity of the injury," Pandey added.

The victim's mother, Saraswati Sarkar, was also reportedly beaten when she tried to stop her husband from assaulting the boy, reports said.

According to the neighbors, the couple frequently fought over issues. Das's father said his son has been rude to people in the family.

"My son's rage did not only affect my grandson and daughter-in-law. He frequently used to behave badly around us. My daughter-in-law informed me this morning that my grandson had been killed. As a result, the police were informed," the child's grandfather reportedly told the media.

In a similar incident reported earlier this week, a 2-year-old girl in India died after she was allegedly slammed on the floor by her father following a heated argument with his wife. The accused father, 24-year-old Biju Kisan, was taken into custody for killing his toddler by throwing her on the floor. Kisan, who abused his wife frequently, fought with her in an inebriated state leading to the brutal killing, police said.
