A Florida mother faces charges of attempted murder after allegedly trying to kill her four children by crashing her car with them in it.

Calicia Williams, 36, was arrested Wednesday following a car crash near Ocala. Williams was driving her four children in a white Pontiac minivan when the vehicle went off the road and crashed into a palm tree, heavily damaging the passenger side. The family was rushed to nearby hospitals.

Investigators allege tire tracks show the crash was deliberate, and Williams accelerated as she drove into the tree.

Police said Williams’ children, ages 7 to 13, were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. Williams allegedly told her kids to undo their seatbelts before crashing, NBC News reported.

“The devil can’t hurt you, he only hurts bad people,” Williams allegedly told the kids, according to police. “You have the light of Jesus in you and only Jesus can cure us.”

Williams was reportedly uneasy at the hospital while being treated, muttering and making strange claims to medical staff. She reportedly said the crash was the result of a voodoo hex imposed by her husband. She said she was trying to read the license plates of the cars “following her.”

“It makes you want to hold your kids tight, and it's unfathomable why a mother would want to do this,” OPD Public Information Officer Corie Byrd said, Orlando CBS-affiliate WKMG reported.

Williams is expected to be booked at Marion County Jail after she is released from the hospitals. Authorities are seeking to have her held without bail.
