Pillsbury Recall

Hometown Food Company has recalled two lots of Pillsbury Unbleached All-Purpose Flour for possible Salmonella contamination. A total of 12,245 cases of flour are impacted by the recall. This is the second flour recall this year for Salmonella contamination.

The Hometown Food recall was issued for 5-pound bags of Pillsbury flour with a UPC code of 51500-22241. It has a Best If Used By Date of APR 19 2020 and APR 20 2020.

The company has received no reports of illness from the affected flour and is making the recall out of “abundance of caution.”

The company urges consumers that have purchased the recalled flour to throw it away or return it to the place of purchase. The recalled flour should not be consumed. If a consumer has become ill from eating the flour, they should see their healthcare provider, the company said.

Hometown Food is offering replacement coupons for the recalled flour which can be obtained by calling 1-800-767-4466.

According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, flour should not be eaten uncooked or in dough or batter as it is a minimally-processed food made from wheat. All surfaces and utensils should be properly cleaned after coming in contact with flour or uncooked dough or batter. Consumers should also wash their hands after handling flour products.

Salmonella can cause serious and fatal illness in young children, elderly adults, and those with a weakened immune system. It can also cause fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In some instances, the Salmonella can enter the bloodstream and cause an arterial infection, endocarditis, and arthritis.
