Infinity Blade
The Infinity Blade will get nerfed in an update for Fortnite. Epic Games

The addition of the “Infinity Blade” sword in “Fortnite” battle royale hasn’t been received all too well by a lot of fans. This is why Epic Games has announced that it will be nerfing the weapon in an upcoming update.

In a post on the official “Fortnite” battle royale Reddit page, a community manager from Epic Games briefly discussed the addition of the “Infinity Blade” in the game. The community manager explained that the weapon is classified as a Mythic item designed to provide players a way to experience gameplay that’s a step above Legendary items and weapons.

He also explained that the addition of this type of weapon will provide “new and flavorful ways” for players to interact with the map and shake up normal gameplay across all of the default modes in “Fortnite.” Epic Games will share more information early next week on what its competitive philosophy is when it comes to everything new in “Fortnite.”

The most important part of the Reddit post has to be the upcoming changes to the “Infinity Blade” sword in “Fortnite.” The community manager said that they have already seen “a healthy amount of discussion and feedback” surrounding the Mythic weapon and Epic has decided to nerf the “Infinity Blade.”

“The change we’re currently planning for the Infinity Blade in our v7.10 update is to remove the ability to build and harvest when wielding the Blade,” the Epic Games community manager said.

He then explained that when Epic Games designed the “Infinity Blade,” they wanted the weapon to come with an inherent risk to balance out its power. By removing the ability harvest in build, Epic believes that this will make the weapon a lot riskier than before, yet still satisfying to players.

A lot of players online are already complaining that the weapon is overpowered. When a player is able to successfully pull the “Infinity Blade” from Polar Peak, they are granted 200 shield and health, and all their weapons and items are dropped. The sword itself deals 75 damage per swing and 25 damage for its special move. Players wielding the sword also have increased movement speed, health/shield regeneration (1 HP/second) and an instant 50 HP gain when eliminating an enemy.

The “Infinity Blade” has caused some havoc in Epic Games’ Winter Royale “Fortnite” competition, which features a prize pool of $1 million, as reported by Eurogamer. Many players were angry that such a powerful weapon is available in a competitive mode where participants can easily lose because of an opponent wielding the “Infinity Blade.”

Players are already responding to the Reddit post by expressing disappointment. “Fortnite” players were hoping that Epic would just vault the weapon or simply place the “Infinity Blade” in a dedicated limited time mode. This is something that's been recommended by a lot of players online, as pointed out by Dexerto. Removing the ability to farm materials and build structures may not be enough to make the weaopn feel more balanced.

Another thing that players appear to be mad at is that Epic Games might even add more Mythic weapons to “Fortnite” battle royale default modes. “The presence of Mythic items in gameplay is to provide an interaction a step above the Legendary item functionality and something you’ll continue to see,” the community manager said.
