A tweet sent on Wednesday night by French Montana has landed the “Lockjaw” rapper in hot water. On April 5, Twitter user @artdecoxxx tweeted, “The fact that French Montana thinks anyone cares about him.”

Just 30 minutes later, the rapper fired back with an offensive, profanity-laced tweet, writing, “U musty crusty dusty rusty ass hoe with them nappy ass poetic justice braids.” French went on to tell the woman to leave and “be humble.” Following his tweet, the hip-hop artist was quickly slammed for what some users saw as an anti-black tweet.

Facing criticism, the rapper continued tweeting early Thursday morning, defending himself and responding to the tweets. “How people get mad at u dragging somebody that tried dragging u,” French tweeted. The rapper also made sure to remind people that he was actually from Africa.

When one Twitter user called the rapper “anti black,” French fired back by tweeting, “My son is black, and I was born in Africa I lived there for 13 years I ain’t no punching bag, and I don’t discriminate! Don’t come for me.”

Born Karim Kharbouch, the 32-year-old rapper was born in Africa but in the country of Morocco. The rapper also does have a half-black son named Kruz, who he had with his ex-wife Deen Kharbouch in 2009.

French spent the first 13 years of his life at his family estate outside of Casablanca, but the family then moved to New York City. Following his move to the United States, his father tried to take the family back to Morocco, but his mother wouldn’t allow it.

“He was trying bring us back [to Morocco] with him, but my mother wouldn’t let him. She was like, ‘I’m not letting them go back over there, ain’t no opportunity over there.’ So he went back, and she stayed with us,” he told Fader.
