Those hoping to see a brand new episode of “General Hospital” on Monday, Dec. 31, will be disappointed when they tune into ABC during the soap opera’s afternoon time slot. On New Year’s Eve, the network is scheduled to air an encore presentation of the Dec. 31, 1997 episode.

Viewers who chose to watch the scheduled programming will be taken back to the time when Carly Roberts (Sarah Brown) was unconscious, and Jason (Steve Burton) was left to make the decision of whether doctors would operate on her baby boy, Michael.

After seeking advice from Monica (Leslie Charleson), Jason will allow physicians to perform the surgery, which “GH” viewers now know saved Michael’s life. Elsewhere, in Port Charles Luke (Anthony Geary) and Mike (Ron Hale) will be busy warning the head of the Quartermaine family to back off of his plans of trying to buy Carly’s baby boy.

Fans may want to enjoy this throwback episode because on Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2019, there will be no broadcast of the daytime series. Instead, it will be pre-empted for sports programming.

However, if you’re a college football fan, the VRBO Citrus Bowl between the Kentucky Wildcats and Penn State Nittany Lions will begin on Tuesday at 1 p.m. EST on ABC.

New episodes of “General Hospital” are expected to begin airing Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2019 at 3 p.m. EST on ABC.
