Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden has seen a surge in fundraising amid backlash against President Trump's response to the George Floyd protests.

Former Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell, who organized an upcoming Biden virtual fundraiser, told CNBC that the event will likely bring in over $1 million, far exceeding original expectations of around $500,000.

“A lot of the data is coming back, because Biden has performed well and we’ll probably end up doing $1.1 million or $1.2 million,” Rendell said Tuesday.

Some campaign Biden bundlers say they are raising money at a faster pace than normal. The surge comes as Trump threatens to deploy the military on cities to crack down on criminal activities amid the protests.

Biden delivered a speech about racial tensions Tuesday in Philadelphia.

"I won't traffic in fear and division. I won't fan the flames of hate. I'll seek to heal the racial wounds that have long plagued our country, not use them for political gain. I'll do my job and I'll take responsibility -- I won't blame others," Biden said.

Trump has attempted to rally support by emphasizing “law and order” in his response to violent protests and looting. Trump will host a fundraiser on June 11 at a private home in Dallas, and will then fly out to his golf club in Bedminister, New Jersey, for another event on June 13.

The Biden campaign and the Democratic National Committee raised $60.5 million in April. The Trump campaign, along with the Republican National Committee, raised $61.7 million in April.

A recent poll from CBS News/YouGov shows Biden at 47% support, with Trump at 43%.
